It displays the real-time flow rate, and can also be used for operations such as resetting the total volume, changing units, and performing zero calibration.

This video shows how the XY-TEK Flow Sensor Monitor is connected to a clamp-on flow sensor to monitor the peristaltic pump performance. It can also monitor the tubing degradation.
